On Sunday 17th September 2017, John Fernandez and I took part in the Enfield Mayor’s 10k race. We missed it last year as we were in Hong Kong during September. This year, we are not planning to go away and we could do this race (after starting my new job in June, I don’t have many days of annual leave to go away). The day before, John and I took part in the Police Thin Blue Line Charity Walk from the London Eye to Kingston Bridge along the Thames Path for 21 miles. We were both very tired on the next morning but as soon as we arrived at the Forty Hill, we were thrilled to see such a great atmosphere with so many participants of all ages. It had definitely lifted our spirit up. This event is so family friendly with different categories covering different distances from 3k, 5k to 10k and 3k walk. The Enfield Mayor’s Fun Run Event is not just about having fun. It’s about raising money for good causes and there have been so many charities who have benefitted.
The weather was a lot cooler than 3 weeks ago when we did the Enfield Trent Park 10k. Although the course is not as hilly as Trent Park, the trail nevertheless, with lots of grass. That meant I had to slow down as my tired legs wouldn’t lift. There are also a number of very tight turns around the course. But overall, it is a very pleasant trail running. It could be quite enjoyable if one is not chasing for a PB. I was only hoping between 1 hour and 1:05’. I pushed very hard to sub one hour in 59’42”. John finished in 1:07’15”. Our time was not great but we both left the venue with a wonderful feeling because we had taken part in 2 charity events in 2 consecutive days and we walked 21 miles and ran 10k back-to-back within less than 24 hours.
The organisation is fantastic, they put water stations at the start, 2k, 4k, 6k, 8k and finish. There are also plenty of bananas at the finish to help runners refuel. We took the opportunity to take a photo with the Enfield Mayor Cllr Bernadette Lappage. I will definitely do it again next year.
