On Wednesday 19th October 2016, I took part in the annual Met 10K at the Battersea Park. I had been doing this event for more than 10 years. Since I left my civilian job in August under the voluntary redundancy, this was the first time I took part as a special constable. But this was also my last because I have resigned from my special constable duty. For this reason, I felt quite sentimental in my last shot in the Met 10K. On that day, the weather was really great for running as air temperature was a bit on the chilly side which was great for the runners. It was dry and with a pleasant autumnal sun that gave a clear blue sky. With the annual JRFT (job related fitness test), officers are required to do shuttle run no slower than level 5.4. This annual Met 10k has provided officers with an MOT to test their ability to pass the JRFT. As a result, the turnout was great. Many officers came to this event in their personal time (annual leave, rest day etc.).

John didn’t take part this year as we were only back from Barcelona the day before after we had taken part in the annual Barcelona Hiking Festival ( http://drkittyhung.com/home-html/barcelona-walk-october-2016/ ). My legs were still very stiff from all the mountain climbing. I thought I was still doing OK when I passed my half way in just under 27 minutes but it went down hill and my split time was over 10 minutes a mile. I could only manage 55’28”.

Our fellow Comets RRC members Rob, Abul and Jacqui all finished good time with Jacqui winning the Female V50 first prize in 46 minutes. Rob and Abul both finished under 45 minutes.

In 4 days time, John and I would take part in the annual Stroud Half Marathon. With some serious rest, I hope to be able to do a better time !!

Adios Met 10K !!
