Enfield Trent Park 10K – August 2017

Enfield Trent Park 10k

Saturday 26th August 2017

@ 10:15am

On Saturday 26th August 2017 – the start of the Bank Holiday long weekend, John Fernandez, my sister Fidelia and I took part in the Enfield Trent Park 10k. It was different from the Triffic Trail 10K organised by the Trent Park Running Club which usually takes place in June. We didn’t do the Triffic Trail because it clashed with the Dragon Boat Race in Dockland. When we found out there would be another 10K at Trent Park in August, we just signed up for that. This event was organised by The Fix Events.

Grrrrgggghhhhh, it was hot hot hot on that day. My phone showed the temperature was already 25’c even before our race started at 10:15am following the 5k event started at 10am. The route was different from the Triffic Trail where from 3k to 8k is one big loop and the first and the last 2k are overlapped. This time it was one loop for 5k and 2 loops for 10k. I think the organiser under estimated the warm weather as they only put one water station near the 5k mark which was also near the finish.

I was just grateful to survive this hot day and hilly route with undulating terrains. I don’t really drink but as soon as I had crossed the finished line, I was craving for an “Ice Cold Beer” and suddenly the vision of the  pubs along the Cockfoster High Street appeared  in front of my eyes !!!

My sister Fidelia was calling my name behind the finish line. She also found it tough as she couldn’t push to sub one hour. She finished in 1:00’35”. I finished in 1:02’48”. John finished in 1:137’36”. Being a big guy, he even struggled more from the heat. Even the fastest runner only managed to finish in 42’13”. Usually, elite runners can finish 10k under 35 minutes. After the event, some of the runners including me went to the information desk and told them had they put a water station at 3k which would also be the same spot at 8k, they would have made our run a lot easier as we had to wait until 5k to have our first sip of water. I think I would only go back if the organiser puts more water stations. My advice is that be careful of events organised by The Fix Events company. Ask them how many water stations they would provide along the route before you sign up and pay for the event because I will certainly do so in the future.
