Regents Park 10K Winter Series #4

Sunday 7th January  2018

@9am

After the disappointing result in the Hyde Park Serpentine New Year’s Day 10k, I really needed a boost, and I also wanted to go back to my pre-chest infection (ie: before September 2017) pace. Having gone to bed at 8pm the night before, I had no excuse not to dutifully get out of bed when my alarm clock went off at 5am on the morning of the Regents Park 10k race.

It was another bitterly cold morning but I really needed to toughen up. I can’t let the cold weather to dictate my life. I just put more layers on and my gloves on.

We bumped into Jacqui Reid at the event. Jacqui came all the way from her home in Luton so early on Sunday morning on the train. She is such a determined person and she has inspired me.

Between the NYD 10k and the Regents Park 10K, I did 1x 6 miles and 1 x 12 miles training run so I felt slightly fitter than 6 days before but I still struggled at the beginning as it was so windy and the cold wind hurt my face. This time, I passed the 5k mark in 27 minutes. It was a slight improvement from the NYD 10K. A good sign I thought.  The last lap of the 3 was a real test as I passed the 7k mark in 39 minutes. I knew I would be faster than the NYD 10K but probably not be able to finished in 55 minutes’ish. In the end I came home in 56’49” – which was somewhat I kind of predicted when I crossed the 7k mark. Oh well, at least I had improved nearly a minute from my last race. John finished in 1:02’55. Jacqui finished in 49’44”. For full results, please visit:

Our next race is the Fred Hughes 10 miler on Sunday 21st January. It is quite a hilly course and not a PB event !!
