@11am
After 10 years of giving up my New Year’s Eve Champagne and my New Year’s Day lie-in, I thought I was not going to do the annual Hyde Park Serpentine NYD 10K. I thought I was going to have a proper NYD celebration by having a couple of glasses of champagne, watch the fireworks on the New Year’s Eve followed by a big lie-in on the New Year’s Day and a hearty NYD breakfast (breakfast in bed would even be nicer)….
But no. John and I were on the start line at 11am on the New Year’s Day morning to do the NYD 10K. Our New Year’s resolutions for getting fit, having a fantastic and healthy lifestyle have surpassed the temptation of all the entertainments associated with the New Year. The NYD 10K is our annual mission. We must do it. We were not alone as there were another 600 poor souls also lining up on the start line J
I am so proud we both did it on such a chuffing cold morning with very heavy mist hung over the entire Hyde Park and Kensington Garden. Fortunately, the rain didn’t come during the race and by the time we had finished the fog had lifted completely.
Everything seemed to be going along the plan for me. I was doing sub 9 minute a mile pace and was hoping to finish in sub 55 minutes. Although I only managed 55’27”, my average split time was 8’58” which was still within my target of sub 9 minute a mile. John was expecting to finish sub 1:10″ but he finished in 1:07’00” which was 3 minutes below his target. No wonder John had double thumbs up in all of his official photos. Ha ha J
We also bumped into our Comets RRC new member Liz Drake who is a solicitor with the Directorate of Legal Services. Liz did so well by finishing in 42’59”.
What a relief. Another New Year’s Day run is over !! What happens next? The Regent Park 10K this coming Sunday.
