After nearly 3 weeks holiday in Hong Kong and China and came back to the UK with a stinking cold, it’s great to be back into that busy Autumn Race Season feeling. John and I did the Lee Valley Run-the-River 10K on Sunday 9th October 2016 (formerly known as Jill Oliver 10K). Since we both missed the Regents Park 10K the previous Sunday due to other engagements, this race was our first event since coming back from holiday.
On that morning, the weather conditions were a bit overcast to start off with – but were soon perfect for running with lovely blue sky and a little autumn breeze. I am a regular to this event since 2004. I keep going back every year because I am very happy with the quality and standard of this race extended by the organiser – the Edmonton Running Club. The venue is where the start and finish take place is located at the beautiful Lee Valley Athletics Centre where the Team GB athletes train there. The course is mostly flat and 100% traffic free. There are plenty of marshals to direct, to give out water and to encourage the runners. All finishers receive a very beautiful medal, a technical t-shirt and a goodie bag containing crisps, water, apple, muesli bar. These are all for the price of £14. It is definitely very good value for money. The carpark right outside the venue is massive with free parking.
I finished in 56’56”. I could have finished a little faster had I not had the cold and missed 2 weeks of training. John finished in 1:06’14”. He was still recovering from a hiking event yesterday in the Peacelake Country Park in Surrey. I didn’t join him as I wanted to rest well at home before today’s race.
I will be back next year that’s for sure !!
