Regent’s Park 10K Winter Series #5
Sunday 5th February 2017
9am
On Sunday 5th February, John and I did our Regent’s Park 10K Winter Series #5. It was still a very cold morning. I wasn’t in a good form as I was still having a bit of breathing problem while inhaling cold air to my poor lungs. I was gutted I only managed to finish in 57’24”.
My poor time was a combination of fatigue and my asthmatic condition. 5 days before the Regent’s Park 10K, I did a long training run for 18 miles as part of my Milton Keynes Marathon preparation. The day after, I did a shorter distance of 6 miles. Then on Thursday, I was doing my special constable duty and was on my feet patrolling for 5 to 6 hours covering more than 11 miles with my heavy PPE (MetVest, utility belt and boots). At the end of my shift, I was exhausted. Then I had a very busy weekend picking up furniture from IKEA and attending a Vegan show in Kings Cross. I will be carrying out my last shift this Thursday. After nearly 11 years as a special constable, the 9th February 2017 would be a date that I will look back on with bitter sweet memories for the rest of my life. I think I will miss it but it’s about time to hang my boots and to move on.
So, with no more patrolling, this will leave me with more rest from March onward. I really hope the weather will get warmer soon and I will have plenty of rest, refocus myself, come back and do a better time in the next race. It is worth doing it as the Regent’s Park 10K has a very flat and fast course with great potential for a PB. Plus the route is 100% traffic free. Although over the years, the entry fee has been crippling up from £6 per race in 2002 when I started doing to the current rate of £16 per race, it remains good value as there have been big improvements over the years such as time chip technology, good quality beautiful finisher’s medal, post race bananas, healthy muesli bars, secured bag storage, shower and changing facilities and a very welcoming coffee shop at the Hub. A fixture in our running calendar.
