On Sunday 5th March, John and I did our last race of the Regent’s Park 10K Winter Series. We even bumped into our fellow Comets RRC member Jacqui. It was still very cold even though March is supposed to be a month which falls into the spring season. Unfortunately, 2 days before the race, I got sick with a really sore chest. I then coughed constantly the night before. As a result, I didn’t sleep much. Not only my chest hurt when I started running but also I felt exhausted from sleep deprivation. Although I made it through the 10K, I only managed 58’42”. John was in good form and he managed to shred a couple of minutes from the last race finishing in 1:03’41”. Jacqui told us that she did a race the day before and she might be slow this time. But she still cut it and finished in a splendid time of 50’13”.
My asthmatic lungs survived most of the winter but it finally succumbed just when the spring arrived. Grrrrr ! It was still 2 months before my Milton Keynes Marathon. I could still afford to get ill and to recover (hopefully) and get back to my training to build up the mileage ready for the full marathon.
We were off to Seville in Spain the day after the Regent’s Park 10K to celebrate John’s big 50th birthday. It would also be a good opportunity for me to have a break from running (as well as housework !!) for a few days to let my lungs rest.
